It’s a Grey Line

June 12, 2012

The following is from the Grey’s Anatomy episode “Poker Face” as spoken by the protagonist of the show Dr. Meredith Grey.  The actress is Ellen Pompeo.  I have added lines of my own.

As babies, we were easy.  One cry meant we were hungry, another meant we were tired, or needed to be changed.  As children, we easily speak the truth and believe what we are told without question.  We naturally just open up.

Adulthood complicates matters.  We hide our feelings, put up walls.  It gets to the point where we never really know how anyone truly thinks or feels.  We censor ourselves and become masters of disguises.  We feed into a defense mechanism that we never asked for to begin with.
